If your Access Pass is active but the door reader doesn’t beep or flash when you hold your phone near it, the issue may be related to your phone’s NFC (Near-Field Communication) settings. Please follow the steps below based on your device.
For Android Users
1. Make Sure Your Phone Is Up to Date
Check for any available Android updates and install them if needed.
2. Check NFC and Default Payment App Settings
- Open your Settings app
- Tap Connections
- Make sure NFC and contactless payments is turned ON
- Tap on NFC and contactless payments, then select Contactless payments
- Ensure Google Pay is selected as the default app (Access Pass doesn’t work with Samsung Wallet)
3. Enable Smart Tap in Google Wallet
- Open your Wallet app and select your Access Pass
- Tap the menu icon (top-right corner)
- Ensure the setting "Hold near terminal to use" is turned ON
4. Open Your Access Pass Before Scanning
Make sure your pass is open before you tap your phone to the door reader. You can do this in two ways:
- In the Anytime Fitness App, go to the Plan screen and tap AF Access Pass
- Or open your Google Wallet and tap on your Access Pass
Tip: Some Android phones need to be held firmly against the reader. If you’re using a thick phone case or a wallet attachment, try removing it and scanning again.
For iPhone Users
All iPhones:
- Make sure your phone is updated to the latest version of iOS
- Open your Access Pass before holding it to the reader:
- Tap AF Access Pass on the Plan screen of the Anytime Fitness App
- Or open your Apple Wallet and select your Access Pass
If You Have iPhone XS, XR, or Newer (Including iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, SE 2nd & 3rd Gen)
Good news—NFC is always enabled as long as your screen is active! Just make sure your iOS is updated and follow the steps above to open your pass before scanning.
If you're not sure whether NFC is working:
- Open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner
- If you see the NFC tag reader icon, tap it to make sure it's active
- If you don’t see it:
- Go to Settings > Control Center
- Tap the + next to NFC Tag Reader to add it
If You Have iPhone 7 or iPhone 8
You may need to activate NFC manually:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center
- Tap the NFC tag reader icon to turn it on
- If it’s not there:
- Go to Settings > Control Center
- Tap the + next to NFC Tag Reader to add it
Then, open your Access Pass as described earlier and hold your phone near the reader.
